Poppy is a Poppin' Rolemodel

Dear Makers of decent children's movies from a parent who watches the same movie over and over again: thank you!!
Trolls is a lot of fun. It has catchy songs that aren't overly repetitive and don't make you want to scream into a pillow for an hour. There's a sarcastic character who speaks to my soul on many levels and lives out my dream of stopping an unasked spontaneous singer from singing. (Branch has his obvious flaw that should be mentioned, he treats Poppy badly. He's condescending and mean so as my daughter gets older we'll have a talk about how if a boy likes you he doesn't treat you like that.)The best part about Trolls is Poppy.

Poppy is such a great character and role model. She is all sunshine and spreads happiness to everyone by genuinely caring about them. That's her real superpower (although her scrap booking skills are dope). At one point Branch says "When you're all in trouble, and the survival of every Troll is in your hands, I sure hope the answer is singing, dancing and hugging, 'cause that's all you can ever do." And that's exactly what happens!! She makes friends with Bridget, she sings dances her way into a friendship that ultimately saves them. I really love the fact that Poppy is such a genuinely nice person who does happy, girly things and doesn't have to "toughen up" to save the day. That message is the positive message I want my daughter to take from Trolls. I love that the writers allow Poppy to be a happy character without being delusional. Another line I love is when he tells Branch she knows the world isn't "all cupcakes and rainbow" but she actively chooses to view the world as mostly wonderful. That line alone reminds the world that it takes perseverance to look at the bleak situations the world throws at you decide not to let those things stop you and instead sing and make friends. Poppy is an inspiration and I am 100% fine with all the Trolls merchandise slowly taking over my home if my daughter can internalize some of that perseverance, and genuine desire to befriend everyone including those who are difficult to be friend with.
